SYDNEY ADVENTIST HOSPITAL - CLINICAL SERVICES BUILDING

WHAT WE DID

The new Clinical Services Building at the Sydney Adventist Hospital in Wahroonga features 200 ward rooms, a state-of-the art medical imaging suite and eight new operating theatres. The air handling systems serving the operating theatres feature low-velocity HEPA filtration systems, with supply air flow monitoring and control via calibrated air velocity sensors. Tightly controlled pressure boundaries had to be set-up utilising both the operating theatre air handling plant as well as the surrounding zone’s ventilation equipment and dedicated exhaust fan systems. The pressure boundaries serve as a measure of infection control between ward rooms, theatres, sterile areas and recovery areas.

As the new CSB building connects to the neighbouring Tulloch building via a link walkway, the air handling systems and zoned smoke control systems for both buildings had to be integrated, relying on a cross-over of duct work, sensor data and control strategies. Marrying the new CSB mechanical equipment with the older Tulloch plant presented some unique challenges and required our technicians to draw on commissioning techniques applicable to multiple eras of ventilation technology.
