M5 EAST TUNNEL VENTILATION SYSTEM
WHAT WE DID
This project required the testing and commissioning of high volume fume extraction systems and fresh air supply systems.
These systems featured high level, large diameter duct work. A key challenge in the commissioning of these systems was working safely and taking consistent, accurate measurements while being exposed to high air velocities. Despite the large diameter duct work, the design air volumes required that the axial fans maintain a high duct velocity to achieve the required supply & extraction rates.

ABOUT THE TUNNEL
The M5 East Tunnel is a 4-kilometer tunnel connecting the Sydney suburb of Bexley North to Arncliffe. The tunnel officially opened in December 2001. The tunnel links to General Holmes Drive at Kyeemagh and has been tolled since July 2020.
The tunnel is owned by Transport NSW and currently operated by WestConnex.
