NEW ROYAL ADELAIDE HOSPITAL
WHAT WE DID
The New Royal Adelaide Hospital project is the largest project we have been involved with to date. The build was a joint venture completed by CPB Contractors and Hansen Yuncken. The size of the build dictated that several commissioning firms work in tandem to help deliver the project by the 2017 deadline. The collaborative nature of the commissioning work made it one of the most rewarding and challenging in our company’s history. R & R Quigley was tasked with commissioning the supply and exhaust systems (and associated pressure controlled zones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) pods. The ICU pods are structurally isolated critical care zones, served by stand-alone air handling and ventilation plant, designed to maximise infection control. As such, air flow measurement tolerances in these areas were extremely tight, with prescribed tolerances as low as +3% / -0%.

ABOUT THE BUILDING
The New Royal Adelaide Hospital, located within the Adelaide Parklands on the north-western corner of the Adelaide CBD, was completed in 2017 and replaced the old RAH which had stood adjacent the University of Adelaide on the city’s north-east side since 1840. The project, which began in 2011, became the most expensive hospital build in Australia’s history. The 10 hectare facility features 40 operating theatres, 4 stand-alone intensive care (ICU) pods and over 800 individual beds.
